Collection route menu

Choose which collection links appear above the product grid on collection pages, using a Shopify menu.

The route menu is a row of collection links above the product grid on collection pages. It lets shoppers move between related collections, such as Men, Women and Accessories, without going back to the main menu.

Where to set it up

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize.
  2. Open a collection template.
  3. Select the Main collection section.
  4. Under Content, choose a menu in Route menu.

Create the menu

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Content > Menus.
  2. Create a menu, for example Collection routes.
  3. Add a menu item for each collection you want to show, linking each one to a collection.
  4. Put the items in the order you want them to appear, and save.
  5. Back in the theme editor, choose this menu in Route menu.

Only links to collections show in the route menu. Links to products, pages, blogs or web addresses in the same menu are skipped. Each link shows the menu item's name.

When Route menu is blank

If you leave Route menu blank, or the chosen menu has no collection links, the route menu shows the current collection plus up to three other collections from your store.

To control exactly which collections appear, choose a menu.

What shoppers see

  • The collection they are viewing is marked as the current one.
  • Selecting a link opens that collection page.
  • On an empty collection, the route menu does not show.

There is no separate setting to turn the route menu off or limit how many links it shows. The links shown come from the menu you choose.
